The Settlement of $145 million Kia & Hyundai Anti-Theft Action has been reached in a class action lawsuit that was imposed against Kia and Hyundai. To compensate the cause, Kia will provide a free software upgrade for the eligible cars which intends to prevent the car engines to start without the correct key. In addition to it, the Kia owners stated that they have distributed over 340,000 free steering wheel locks nationwide to the owners of the vehicles that are not eligible for the software upgrades.

$145 Million Kia & Hyundai Anti-Theft Class Action Eligibility
As per the Settlement, the Kia and Hyundai owners will provide compensation of the anti-theft to the vehicle owners or lessors who had their vehicle being stolen due to lack of immobilizer. A portion of $145 million Kia & Hyundai Anti-Theft Class Settlement will be provided to the car owners who bought or rent Kia and Hyundai cars made between 2011 and 2022.
The settlement amount may differ for the persons who have received the free steering wheel locks from the company. The final approval hearing was commenced on July 15 and as of the hearing, the compensation amount will be provided to the car owners. The last date to file the claim submission is January 11, 2025 and the distribution of the $145 million settlement will begin after January 2025.

The automobile companies will be providing a settlement amount to compensate over 9 million vehicle theft under the $145 Million Kia & Hyundai Anti-Theft Class Action. Under this, owners of the vehicle that are not eligible for the software upgrade can receive a reimbursement of around $300. On the other side, if the dealers have already provided the vehicle owners with free steering wheel, then the customer can receive reimbursement of up to $250.
Apart from that, the law firm announced that a reimbursement of up to 60% of the vehicle’s black book value will be provided to those who had experienced theft. A reimbursement of up to 33% of vehicle’s Black Book value or $3,375 will be provided for the damage of the vehicle due to attempted theft, the law firm confirmed. In addition to it, a free software upgrade will be installed for the eligible cars.

The eligible car owner’s whose vehicles were stolen due to lack of anti-deterrent devices will need to wait for some time to get the settlement amount. Now, the court has still to grant final approval of the revised $145 Million Kia & Hyundai Class Action Settlement fund before the payments are out. The eligible car owners who are looking to get a portion of their settlement are advised to be aware of the final date to submit the claim to receive the payment. The deadline is January 11, 2025 and the payment distribution will start after January 2025.
